The Kumawood was a game changer for the Ghana movie industry:Previously, Nollywood movies were largely seen on our TV screens in most households. Arguably, it took the timely interventions of some production houses like Miracle Films and Venus Films (Ghallyhood) and legends like Alex Kofi Adu(Agya Koo), Felicity Ama Agyemang(Nana Ama McBrown) to bring Ghanaians attention to locally produced movies.
The industry which employs hundreds of people in their production chain became very lucrative because of their consistency in producing and providing good quality content in the Ghanaian movie space. It was no surprise that eventually, the industry became the most recognizable film industry in Ghana.
Although the story is not the same today as a result of modernisation, lack of finding and many other factors best known to the industry players, all hopes are not lost if they restrategize and bounce back.
Kumawood stars like Agya Koo, Nana Ama McBrown, Rose Mensah(Kyeiwaa), Mercy Asiedu, Kwadwo Nkansah(Lilwin) just to mention but a few have won the admiration of many Ghanaians due to their wonderful and amusing display of talents and have become roles models to our children in the society.
During the active days of the industry which saw high patronage of movies, these stars showcased their talents through the roles they played, among them was married couples. Without any bias and from my own personal observations, the following stars made perfect couples in movies they starred in. For the sake of respect, deceased stars were excluded.
1. Agya Koo And Mercy Asiedu
2. Akrobeto and Nana McBrown
3. Lilwin and Akyere Bruwaa
4. Agya Koo and Rose Mensah(Kyeiwaa)
5. Bill Asamoah and Emelia Brobbey
6. Clement Bonny and Portia Asare
7. John Prah and Nana Yaa Appiah
8. Twumasi and Nana McBrown
