KUMERICA:THE NEW TREND

Creativity they say does not wait for the right moment. One would have thought that in the midst of a global pandemic which has frustrated world leaders, there leaves much to be desired of creativity.

However, this is not the case. We woke up one day to the hearing of 'KUMERICA' a creative way of saying Kumasi has won the admiration of large section of Ghana’s population and even those in the disapora with many social media users garnishing it in their own way.

My little research on this topic revealed that it originated from the Ashanti region, the second capital of Ghana after Accra by a group of young men who call themselves KUMERICAN MOVEMENT.

This is nonpartisan movement. The nationalistic movement motive is to reminisce the good old days they (Ashantis) used to dress, walk, play among others.

Surprisingly, the group's intention was not to rename the various cities of Ashanti region to American states like the Manhyia Palace(Seat of the Ashanti king) being renamed as Washington DC (Seat of the President) they're however accept it in those forms.

Many ghanaians from other parts of the country like the people from Kwahu, have also renamed their town 'KWAHUNADA'. A replica of Canada.

The battle of renaming cities have begun. Will you also rename your hometown to a popular country in the world?

Will those from Madina rename theirs to Madibai? A Dubai replica?
