It is said that, "A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops." Unknown
Teachers are the implementers of government's educational policies and as such, need to be equipped with all teaching and learning resources to enhance their lesson delivery. Unfortunately in Ghana, lack of teaching and learning materials have made learning difficult for students. Teachers hands are tied behind their back because they cannot function properly without the necessary tools to teach.
Due to this, many have resorted to abstract teaching whiles few are able to go the extra mile of using their little income to buy teaching and learning materials. The Ghana teacher is capable of delivering a comprehensive and holistic lesson if equipped with the right tools to teach.
One person who is fostering teacher competency in his constituency is Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin,the member of parliament for Effutu constituency in the Central region of Ghana. He has been consistently distributing laptops to teachers teaching in the various in his constituency year on year. Just yesterday, the honorable member of Parliament distributed forty (40) brand new laptops to newly posted teachers in his constituency.
Although some Ghanaians think this move could be politically motivated, some of us think otherwise. If only our members of parliament would emulate this commendable initiative, teachers would be in a very good and fit position to teach with ease. With the introduction of the new standard curriculum for basic Schools in August 2019, lessons are to be taught more practically with the use of audio-visuals yet most teachers are left handicapped.
